First Revolution Images
Revolution shooter, Red Steel, screens are out in this month’s Game Informer. Updated with new info.
In their recently released May issue, Game Informer reveals the first screen shots of Ubisoft’s Red Steel, a newly announced game for the Nintendo Revolution. Based on the screen shots, Red Steel is a first person shooter, but there are few specifics on controls. Aiming is done by pointing the Revolution controller and moving the crosshairs on the screen. One interesting—though not entirely surprising—aspect demonstrated is the ability to change the angle of your gun by simply rotating the Revolution controller. Pictures also reveal that the nunchaku attachment will be used in gameplay.
Red Steel also promises a mixture of swordplay along with the firefights. The action in the screenshots takes place in what appears to be a casino. Living up to the title, the enemies’ jackets, the tiling on the floor, the walls, and what are possibly slot machines are all primarily red in tone. Other details are scarce, but we will remain on top of this story (and all other Revolution announcements) as they develop.
Update
More information has made its way to PGC regarding Red Steel. The Revolution game takes even greater advantage of the three dimensional controller movement. Moving the controller toward the screen allows the character to push over objects, while pulling it back toward you is the reload function. Twisting the controller will allow you to lean around corners for extra sneakiness.
As far as integration of gameplay and story, throughout the game your character learns new moves from his Japanese senseis. If your character disrespects either sensei (in particular, walking away while they are talking) they will respond angrily. The extent of their anger, though, is unknown at this point.
Also, you earn the respect of Yakuza bosses by sparing their lives when defeating them in a sword fight. Photographs demonstrate that the sword is held in the two-handed samurai style. One photo shows a player holding the Revolution controller behind his head with the corresponding screen shot displaying the hilt being held up to the character’s face.
While details remain scarce, there is mention of multiplayer. Unfortunately, it remains unknown if it will be available for online play.
